Choosing the Right Type

Which Fire Extinguisher Class
Does Your Space Need?

The right extinguisher class depends on the hazard present in each space — not a building-wide default. County Fire designs extinguisher placement and class selection around NYC Fire Code occupancy requirements, not just which unit is easiest to sell.

Ordinary combustibles

Class A

Paper, wood, cloth, and common trash fires. Standard requirement for offices, retail floors, and common areas throughout a building.

Flammable liquids & gases

Class B

Fuel, solvent, and gas-based fires. Required in mechanical rooms, loading docks, and storage areas where flammable chemicals are present.

Electrical equipment

Class C

Fires involving live electrical equipment. Standard for server rooms, electrical closets, data centers, and IT infrastructure spaces.

Commercial cooking

Class K

Grease and cooking-oil fires in commercial kitchens — a distinct requirement from ABC coverage, mandated alongside kitchen suppression systems.

Most common — combination

ABC Dry Chemical

Covers Class A, B, and C hazards in a single unit. The default choice for most general commercial spaces that don't have a specialized hazard.

What You Get

What's Included in Every
